The Scullery Quintet – Padkos & Polyphony
The Scullery Quintet in a new crossover ensemble that features a unique blend of the classic string quartet sound accompanied by contemporary rhythm section. The Quintet will be launching their ‘Padkos & Polyphony’ 2024 Winter Tour, at the beautiful Atterbury Theatre on Saturday the 1st of June. This concerts will feature all new arrangements of the world’s most memorable music from across the musical spectrum. This exciting programme will feature iconic music from composers such as : the Beatles, Bach, Piazzolla, Ernest Ranglin, Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), Beethoven and more. ‘Padkos and Polyphony’ is a musical journey for music lovers both young and old. Come and join the Scullery Quintet on this exciting and euphonious road trip!
The Quintet is led by 3 time SAMA award winner and drummer , Peter Auret ( Nataniël, Charl du Plessis trio, Ziza Muftic quartet) and features acclaimed violinists : Waldo Luc Alexander (William Kentridge, Sontonga Quartet, Johannesburg Festival Orchestra ) and Hana Yim-Wahl (Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, Phoenix Orchestra, the Muses) with violist Tiisetso Mashishi ( JPO, JPO Quartet, Mzansi Philharmonic) and Double Bassist Amaeshi Ikechi (Zonke, Selaelo Selota, Sydney Mavundla quartet). In 2022 the Scullery Quintet was nominated for ‘Best Classical Performance’ at the US Toyota Woordfees.
