MOGALE FESTIVAL: DIE NUWE VERBOND
A collaborative work by Stellenbosch based composer Antoni Schonken and poet Antjie Krog, Die Nuwe Verbond, and the premiere of the Prismatica submissions is the proud flagship productions of the Mogale Festival.
Prismatica is a curated collection of diverse piano works written by South African composers. An exploration of contemporary compositions that embrace our shared heritage and colourful history. Laura Pauna will give premiere performances of these new works at the Flagship concert, alongside notable compositions by established South African composers.
The second half of the program will be the performance of the Die Nuwe Verbond; a new Afrikaans Mass written by composer Antoni Schonken and poet Antjie Krog. This production was commissioned by NATI and was premiered at the US Woordfees in 2019 to great acclaim, and has since also received an international debut at the Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam.
Die Nuwe Verbond will be performed by the Horizons Project Choir, composer Antoni Schonken, poet Antjie Krog and will be conducted by Pieter Bezuidenhout.
